Had Zachary, DGS2, here this afternoon. He was delighted to have counted each block as he put them away -- all 80 of them! A year ago, he likely would have displayed a bit of temper at the thought of picking up toys. What a difference a year makes.

After he left, Sallie and I took a long walk, returning at dusk.

This is a photo of the execution room at Struthof, a WWII concentration camp. A sign outside the door, written in three languages, reads:

The deported were killed here by a gunshot in the neck.

The floor was slanted toward a drain that collected the blood and thus allowed the floor to clean rapidly after executions.

In the night of 1 September and 2 September, 1944, no less than 107 members of the network "Alliance" including 15 women were massacred here together with 33 members of Alsace-Vosges mobile group.

Jim stopped in and we had a nice visit. Sue & Tom were over too.  Wish you could have been here as well.

Another sad time to remember.

Can he count all the way up to 80??
One knows many horrible things happened, and are still happening...and when confronted or reminded about them, then one can feel sad....but how quickly we leave that feeling behind and continue to complain about bad weather, rising prices or aches and pains! Such is life! couldnt go round and be constantly aware of others sufferings... we are very egotistical....the important thing to each of us is the survival of ourselves, and those ear and dear to us...like Zachary...

Had to have just a tad bit of help -- forgot what came after 69 :) Sweetheart -- they grow so fast!

So true, Ross -- but, well, we just can't go around too gloomy, can we? Got to keep a balance. Don't forget, don't be unaware, don't ignore -- but don't obsess, either...  I'll post something a bit more up tonight.

Dear God, what terrible things went on.

Still glad you posted the photo's though Susan, hard as it is to read and remember, because we should never forget those who endured and suffered so much.
"know all about the past, what happened/history but don't dwell too much either"

My dear sister-in-law says that when she can't sleep at night she thinks of all the awful things going on in the world and becomes terribly saddened.

We do have some new hope in the United States now, with our new leader-to-be!  He knows it's a big job and will take a long time, but we show progress by electing him!

Word challenge is a FB game, Ross?

Not me, Ross -- Mary maybe. I don't like to lose. (And, weirdly, I don't like to win)

You don't like to win? Too much attention on you when you do?

I'm not certain... I didn't figure out that I didn't like to win until just a couple of years ago. I suppose the attention is partly it ("I'm nobody, who are you...?") I don't like making someone else lose. Competition against myself is quite all right, though. Had there been girls' sports when I was in school, track would have been my favorite.
