Took Sallie on the shorter, then took my camera on the longer trail. Windy, windy day and warm -- but the mountain was sheltering this bit of milkweed parachutes ready to take off. Rain expected in the morning, then cooler again. Ready for the cooler weather 70s is too warm for November.

Still giddy from the Obama win. Abraham Lincoln: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.
Abraham Lincoln, (attributed)
16th president of US (1809 - 1865)

Thank you, Lynn. Lincoln was a wise man, yes. We're in Lincoln territory. Tremont was once the county seat -- during the time Lincoln was riding the circuit. We're not far at all from Springfield, where he lived and is buried.

Great steps Susan.  You really do a wonderful job on the walking.  When do you find time to quilt.  Or don't you anymore.

Beautiful photo!  Great people come from your area.  (This includes you, although a Blufftonite, too.)

Thank you, Kaye. We try to do the New Salem (reconstructed village where Lincoln once lived) every few years.

Here is my favorite Lincoln story:
Lincoln was digging stumps out of a ditch, a women passing by stopped and said, "you sir, are the ugliest man I have ever seen!"
Lincoln replied "Well ma'am there is not much I can do about that"
To that the woman replied "Well, you could have stayed home!"

I like his self-deprecating sense of humor.

Marty, years ago, I read through four of five volumes of Sandburg's history of Lincoln. I found the early volumes most interesting... Tremont was mentioned several times. His humor came through... though there's no question much of it was lost.

Chris, I quite agree!
