Took one set of grandkids to the new section of the train trail -- which was promptly dubbed "The Mountain." Did a trail walk after they left -- but cut it short in order to greet trick-or-treaters. One set of grandkids are "too big" for T & T with family. Big sis will help the Saal kids hand out candy while brother T & Ts with friends. Sigh. Twins came as Thing One and Thing Two; their little brother was the Cat in the Hat. Saal girls were Hannah Montana and...well, Grandma's not sure who else, while Zach was an astronaut. (Am getting just a bit tired of this "scary" music I have playing in the background--but T & T's not quite over yet).

Here's my train song for the Mountain Trail (you'll have to imagine a melody here and the mandolin accompanying):

Train, she ain’t a-comin, ain’t a-comin’, ain’t a-comin’, ain’t a-comin’, ain’t a –
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Once, she linked the small town to the mid-town and the mid-town to the big-town, but the
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Once, she carried Grandpa to his studies, bore his books and bore his luggage, but the
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Once, she carried west-bound freight and east-bound, blocking north-bound roads and south-bound, but the
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Once, she whistled children to the window with her signal for the crossing, but the
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Once, she crossed the corn fields, crossed the prairie, crossed the river, crossed the creek beds, but the
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Train, she lost her trestle, lost her trestle, lost her trestle, lost her trestle, lost her —
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.
Train, she ain’t a-
Train, she ain’t a-
Train, she ain’t a-comin’ no more.

Mandolin minutes: 45

Susan, thanks for sharing. Sam is giving out candy as we speak. It is from 6pm to 8pm. Nikolas was a boxer. (fighter)
Thanks for the song!!!!

+!  Nice trail and song, too...call us anti-social but we will be at work late tonight (getting ready for the convention tomorrow) which means we will miss the tricker-treaters entirely.  There aren't many kids in our neighborhood anyway...  Sure am enjoying photos that friends/family have been posting of their little tricker-treaters though (and, it is easier to resist candy this way!).

Thanks all!

Just about ready to turn off our porch light...but have way too much candy left over. Can't quite adjust to no longer living on the corner by the park in the middle of town!

I was just going to ask if you even got many visitors way out there by the old railroad track...

Trick-or-treaters ain't a comin' no more.
Trick-or-treaters ain't a comin' no more.
Trick-or-treaters ain't a comin' no more.
Once they came by the dozens and took up all the candy, but the
Trick-or-treaters ain't a comin' no more.
Trick-or-treaters ain't a comin' no more.

They ain't, 'tis true. I believe @laurasaal got them all. They arrived early in order to return home to greet all the T & Ters. (Unbelievable, the difference -- I SHOULD have sent my candy home with her).

Can't you post your song on you tube, so we can hear the melody????

Someday, maybe, Debby... not yet. Told you I'm a hobbyist! Just imagine it's beautiful! (Imagination is usually better, right?)

Hi Susan.  Great song---great pic (looks like a great place to walk), and sounds like you had a great Halloween.  We have a Zack as well, and it was he I kept trying to figure out what he was---matter of fact, I'm still wondering what or who he was supposed to be---LOL.

Thanks for the song!  I love the clickety-clack of the train going by. I wonder if all tracks will be abandoned in 100 years.  What changes in transportation will occur that we can not even imagine?

Kids have no word for stale when it come to candy.  It'll keep. :)  Or is it all about the tempation of having it around? :))  It is kind of sad what has happened to our railway system in this country.  I always liked Arlo's rendition of The City of New Orleans with its "...this train's got the disappearin' railroad blues...." line.  A couple of the houses where I grew up were along tracks and the old steam whistle sound is still there in my head somewhere.

Thank you so much dearest Susan ...

What a most beautiful song!!  I can "hear it" and its really emotional reading this through (third time now).

The train, "she ain't a-comin' no more" has happened here en España and in Ireland/Scotland too Susan and @starwalker

A perfect photo here of the trai trail (is that right?)how nice to enjoy a walk here, no traffic to interrupt your thoughts ....
I do love the descriptions you've given us of the grandchildren and their Halloween costumes Susan.

A really lovely my dear, thank you very much!!!!

Yes, your descriptions were great and I can picture you handing out your candy to your grandchildren and what they all looked like...except for the one you didn't know!  That's okay...it was only last year that I realized Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana are the same person...I needed my third graders to get me caught up on that!

Love the song, too!
