You are all so very kind! Thank you. No big celebration today -- but we are taking a life-list trip to Switzerland and Germany, tracing heritage. Leaving early Monday morning.

Ohhh...trip to Germany?  Double congrats!

Germany is on my list too...recently traced family (still living in the old home) there.  A cousin got to go and meet them (based on my research and making contact with them)...but I've not yet gotten to go.  Someday...hopefully before my 40th anniversary (we just made 17 last week)...Herr Wäring (my G-grandfather's nephew) is already 85 ;-)

My paternal grandmother was a young adult immigrant from Switzerland. She never did speak English. My father met some second cousins when my parents traveled there some 40 years ago. I'm not expecting to look them up, though.

Congratulations!  What a handsome groom and beautiful bride!
We were married in the same church.  Our date was 12-20-80.
I have aunts and uncles going to Switzerland, I believe in Sept.
It is too bad Delbert Gratz can't lead you on one of his famous trips. We lost so much when we lost Dr. Gratz.  Did you know him?
He helped me trace a distant cousin, that I owe a letter.  I will be so interested in your trip.

Congratulations! You were (are) a lovely couple. Your trip sounds great. Our 40th anniversary will be September '09. We are beginning to ponder how to celebrate.

Happy anniversary!  Love your flip.

I cannot believe you are leaving for Switzerland on the day kids come for us.  I figured you'd be sitting in a dark room quietly lighting candles for us!

Ummmmm.... I'll light virtual candles in my mind. Will that work?

OK. And I'll fly to Switzerland with you in my mind.

Only real vacation of the summer -- if you don't count the reunion. DH finally caught up with his field inspections and I mean field inspections! I think he learned. 10-12 hour days in the heat of the summer with NO days off, really!

congratulations! what a sweet picture! Exciting about the trip to Switzerland and Germany, too!! How long will you be there? Were these Mennonites? Are you Menno. on both sides of the family?
slsommer
posted August 19 5:11 am
Yes, Debby -- both sides, far, far back.

Are many of the European relatives still Mennonite? I spent a few years in Germany in Brethren volunteer service, but only ran into some Mennonites, mostly as refugees from Russia. Also some French and Dutch.

Don't know that, Debby. Might be Reformed. Most of the Mennonites left Switzerland under persecution. Got to re-read my history before we leave -- that's for sure!
