Fatastic picture. Funny here we call sail boats yachts.
Your boat taxi ride sounded wonderful. Great that you could spend this time with your grandchildren.

The boat ride sounds like it was a great time. How could you go wrong with "adult drinks"?
The smaller ones are sail boats, larger ones yachts. I don't know how large a boat has to be before we start calling them yachts.
That makes sense to me!
Yep. Jim and I decided we'd just sell our house, buy a yacht, hire a crew (since we know nothing) and sail away!
So much for fantasy :)

Dream on!
Thanks for this wonderful picture of Chicago from the boat. It's great to see other parts of the country....and the world, through WTers.
We have spent many nights in Chicago, but only at airport hotels when flights were cancelled and generally in winter show storms. Some day I would like to see the city when not worrying about flights and when we have some clean clothes with us.
Sounds like you had a really nice time on your trip. I know what you mean when it comes to counting GK's heads----Usually I wind up looking before I ever get to number 6---LOL. Take care and have a great day.
The only thing I know about Chicago is from the song and gangster movies.
There is a very interesting building in the picture. The one with the diamond crown. Looks very beautiful. Any idea of what it is?

Nice!
Sorry, Susie, I don't know -- but I'll be someone on here does. Maybe JMHurd. I'll ask him.
I love your picture and Chicago, too!
What a fun day for all of you! We had a great time at the Shedd in July! Adult drinks on the lake sounded good, too!
Susie, here's what JMHurd said about the building:
"If it's the one I think you're talking about (the short stubby building with the slanted-diamond roof) that the Smurfit-Stone Building. The other pointed diamond top building is 2 Prudential Plaza"
Chicago is really much more beautiful than is often thought.

@Jbarrett to the rescue:
"The diamond-shaped building is the Smurfit-Stone Building also known as the Stone Container building. It's a cool looking building that is lit up with logos and messages for certain events like the Sox winning the World Series in 2005. It was also in a movie - adventure in babysitting - I believe."

Thank you for that. I love wonderful architecture and this one looks great. Here is a link and it has the skyline line up too.

Sounded really good to us, and we took him up on it.
"So tell me," he asked as DH paid the fare, "which part of the pitch got you? It was the 'adult drinks,' wasn't it?"
'Twas that. And a beautiful sunny day on Lake Michigan with a whole slew of anchored sail boats waiting for weekend sailers. After being indoors most of the day, the boat ride looked promising.
Fulfilled its promise, too. Here is the Chicago Loop as seen from the boat taxi. It's a beautiful Chicago, one I come as close to loving as I can love any city. More graceful than Sandburg lets on:
"Hog Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders..."
